Description
Sawmill. View of logs cut from a tropical rainforest piled up at a sawmill. The timber can be used in the building industry and as wood-pulp in the paper industry. The systematic clearing of trees and vegetation from the rainforests has raised concern that countless plant and animal species could be made extinct. There are also fears that the lack of oxygen-producing vegetation in these areas could contribute to global warming, due to increased levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Photographed in Puntarenas province, Costa Rica.
